Organization: Indian Foreign Service
The IFS is part of the civil services, and selection is through the UPSC Civil Services Exam.
1️⃣ Nationality
Must be an Indian citizen
Subjects of Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1962 may also be eligible under certain rules

IFS Officer Exam Details
Organization: Indian Foreign Service
The IFS Officer is selected through the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE). IFS is a top choice among civil services, and selection is based on rank and preference after the exam.
1️⃣ Step 1 – UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam
Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)
Papers: 2 Papers
General Studies (GS) – 200 marks
Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) – 200 marks (qualifying)
Duration: 2 hours per paper
Purpose: Screening exam for Mains
Subjects Covered: Current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, environment, ethics, logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude
Note: Only the marks in GS paper are counted for merit. CSAT is qualifying (minimum 33%).
2️⃣ Step 2 – UPSC Civil Services Main Exam
Type: Written exam
Number of Papers: 9 Papers (8 are counted for merit, 1 is qualifying – Indian language)
